Jindal Global University invite you to an exclusive Masterclass with globally recognised CSR and sustainability experts.
The masterclass faculty will share the latest global research and case studies on corporate responsibility as the public good in the contemporary context of market-driven growth and globalization, concomitant with economic, social and environmental challenges. The workshop will focus on conceptual and practical tools for creating the linkages between CSR and SDGs in emerging economies in general and in India in particular. Participants will learn what makes CSR-SDG combination an effective business strategy for organisations by focusing on creating public good. The legal provisions of CSR in India specified in Section 135 and Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013 and their linkages with SDGs will be in focus in the masterclass.
The masterclass will combine theory and real world case studies. After attending you will be able to:
- Identify the characteristics of CSR and SDGs as public good
- Identify the basis of creating sustainable business in emerging economies with CSR and SDGs as public good
- Assess how the combination of CSR and SDGs can deliver value to the organization, to society, the economy and the environment
- Develop a preliminary understanding on conceptual frameworks and different tools to link and integrate CSR and SDGs in your organization in the Indian context

Expert Faculty Bios
Prof. Dirk Matten: Prof. Dirk Matten holds the Hewlett-Packard Chair in Corporate Social Responsibility at the Schulich School of Business. He has a doctoral degree and the habilitation from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf in his native Germany. He is also a Visiting Professor at the University of London, the University of Nottingham and at Sabancı University in Istanbul. Until recently, Prof. Matten served as Schulich’s Associate Dean, Research. He is also the Co-Founder and Director of the Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business (COERB) at the Schulich School of Business. He has taught and done research at academic institutions in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Britain, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, India, Italy, Turkey, and the USA. He has published 24 books and edited volumes as well as more than 80 articles and book chapters, which have won numerous prestigious awards. In August 2018, his paper with Prof. Jeremy Moon “’Implicit’ and ‘Explicit’ CSR: A Conceptual Framework for a Comparative Understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility” (Academy of Management Review Vol. 33, No. 2) was awarded “Academy of Management Review Paper of the Decade”, and he was ranked #44 in the ‘Top 100 Corporate Social Responsibility Influence Leader’ (ranking next to CEOs and CSR leaders of Unilever, Google, Apple etc. He is the only academic scholar on the list). Earlier in 2013, Cambridge based think tank CSR International ranked Prof. Matten among the ‘Top 100 CSR Leaders’. Prof. Matten’s work has appeared in many international journals including Academy of Management Review, California Management Review, Human Relations, Journal of Management Studies, and Organization Studies. Prof. Matten was co-editor of the journal Business & Society (SAGE). Dr. Bimal Arora: Dr. Bimal Arora is a faculty member at Aston Business Schools in UK and Honorary Chairperson of Centre for Responsible Business (CRB). His teaching and research interests are in broader fields of Management, CSR and Sustainability. He has extensive policy and practice experience in ethical trade, voluntary sustainability standards (VSS) in diverse industry sectors and countries. He holds a Masters’ degree from the London School of Economics (LSE) and Ph.D. in Sustainability and CSR from the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR), Nottingham University Business School, UK. He is an honorary fellow of Global Development Institute (GDI) at the University of Manchester, Visiting Fellow with European Research Council funded Research Project Trafflab at Tel Aviv University, and Fellow at the Growing Inclusive Markets Initiative at UNDP. Mr. Amit Lahiri: Amit is the Chief Sustainability Officer at O.P. Jindal Global University in India and the Associate Director of the IIHEd (International Institute for Higher Education Research & Capacity Building). He combines about ten years of experience in the global life sciences industry with about eighteen years in the higher education sector. His career has spanned working across Canada, France, Germany, the U.A.E. and India. He has a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies (Sustainable Development) from York University, a Graduate Diploma in Business & the Environment from the globally ranked Schulich School of Business, Canada and a Master’s degree in Life Sciences from Bombay University, India. He has been awarded the Board of Governors Award of Excellence in 2015, the highest award in the Ontario public colleges system in Canada. He was a featured speaker the same year in the CSR panel ‘Tech for Good’ at the prestigious NASSCOM’s National India Leadership Forum (NILF). He was invited to speak at the plenary panel at the eminent Tata Institute of Social Sciences organised National CSR Conclave in November 2017 on ‘Driving SDGs through CSR in India’. He has presented in numerous conferences and workshops in India as well as abroad and is a regular contributor in CSR industry publications. At O.P. Jindal University, Amit is mandated with developing the institutional capacity of research, scholarship and practice in CSR and sustainability through collaborative research and training with multiple stakeholders. He is also a participant in the evolving global network of community- based research practitioners through UNESCO’s Knowledge for Change (K4C) program.
